Career Explorer-ERT Overview

Career Guides

Career Guides are a comprehensive source of up-to-date information on hourly jobs in Puget Sound, Portland and Wichita. Career Guides are available at the Internal Joint Programs Career Explorer web site. The Career Guides have become the foundation for the Category C Hourly ERT Process. Click here to learn more about ERT.

The Guides were written and validated by Union members on staff with QTTP, using Subject Matter Experts (hourly employees and line managers in each of the jobs) to capture up-to-date information. Each guide provides a job summary, typical tasks, duties and responsibilities, knowledge, skills and abilities, physical demands and potential hazards, and appropriate training. The training courses link directly to enrollment in off-hour classes.

The Career Guides do not replace the Standard Factory Job Descriptions and are only to be used for career development purposes. It is also important to note that any shop- and/or site-specific information has not been included.

Career Explorer

Driven by the need for accurate and up-to-date information on hourly jobs, QTTP launched the Career Explorer web site in November 1998. The Career Explorer features the Career Guides that provide employees and managers online information on hourly jobs and specific off-hour training to enable career planning.

The Explorer also has a vast number of career development resources. Links to internal and external websites can help you with:

  1. Career Assessment: learn more about your interests, skills and personality style.
  2. Career Exploration: explore careers and gather information before making a decision.
  3. Education/Training: locate the right education or training for your career goal.
  4. Job Search: find the job that fits your knowledge, skills and training and get help with writing a resume and brushing up on interview skills.
