To promote information flow to employees about the occupational health implications of proposed changes in materials, processes, and equipment, shop redesigns and relocations, and employee reassignments and relocations.
- Meet at least monthly with contractually designated Union and Company representatives (CBA Art. 16)
- Review health & safety effects resulting from changes in materials, processes, and equipment (CBA Art. 16), shop redesigns and relocations, and employee reassignments and relocations
- Monitor new chemical and ergonomics R&D activities
- Identify potential employee acceptance issues to be addressed with HCT Focal/Site Committee input
- Coordinate communication flow of hazcom issues
- Coordinate communication between M&PT and Site Committees
- Facilitate the sharing of hazcom best practices
- Inform home organizations of HCT activities
- Stay current on Company/Industry trends (pertaining to health effects of change CBA Art.16)
- Review issues related to hazcom from the perspective of a cross-organizational and cross-disciplinary team with employee awareness as a goal
- Provide information/communications to employees (by monitoring & improving Company & Union hazcom systems CBA Art. 16)
- Act as resource for Site Committees in promoting successful New Chemical Introductions and addressing employee concerns
- Provide HCT Focals with hazcom information to share with Site Committees (e.g., M&PT chemical & ergonomics activity reports, CHRs [Chemical Handling Requirements]; contact requesting M&PT engineer or SHEA responders if questions or concerns regarding CHRs for shop tests, and related information)
- Facilitate development of Site Committee chemical-specific hazcom plans
- Provide guidance on what constitutes good hazcom from employee perspective (e.g., refer to Communication Bulletin Guidelines, New Chem Intro video)
- Establish annual initiatives and develop consensus on goals, direction, and measures based on HCT mission and input from team members, Site Committees, and HSI staff
- Plan and execute strategies for achieving annual initiatives
- Identify, prioritize, and work projects that enhance understanding of the hazcom process and promote employee acceptance (e.g., develop and implement strategy for improving new employee and area-specific orientations)
- Conduct monthly meetings with HCT Focals
- Schedule monthly meeting topics/speakers per Core Team and HCT Focal input
- Provide HCT Focals with guidance on which intros might require Site Committee involvement

- Establish and maintain contact with Site SHEA:
- Know the current SHEA organizational structure
- Facilitate communication of concerns between the shop and appropriate SHEA personnel
- Work with Site Committee to assign IAM Site Committee member(s) to support New Chemical Introductions
- Share info from HCT Focals monthly meetings
- Share any pertinent hazard communication information gained through HCT resources (e.g., M&PT chemical & ergonomics activity Reports, CHRs [Chemical Handling Requirements]; contact requesting M&PT engineer or SHEA responders if questions or concerns regarding CHRs for shop tests, and related information)
- Serve as M&PT/SHEA contacts for site hazcom issues/shop trials

- Attend monthly meetings with HCT Core Team
- Report on New Chemical Introductions:
- Quality and timeliness
- Employee acceptance
- Best practices
- Potential problems
- Report on other proposed changes (e.g., ergonomics, machines, processes, reorganizations) that might result in need for hazcom
- Report on quality and timeliness of routine hazard communication such as:
- Generic and area-specific hazcom for new employees
- Area-specific hazcom for transferred employees
- Request specific topics and speakers of interest for HCT Focals meetings
- Share problem-solving methods/resolutions regarding site-specific issues
- Request help when needed from Core Team
- Assist Core with HCT projects/communications such as video and website development, plus preparation of written
materials/brochures, by providing input and feedback
Regarding HCT
- Assign two members of the Site Committee (one Union, one Company) to serve as HCT Focals.
- Assist with material, process, and equipment introductions as needed, or as related to shop redesigns and relocations, and employee reassignments and relocations.
- Share hazard communication issues with HCT Focals.
